A brief overview and history of the group
The NMVG was formed in 1977 by a group of enthusiasts interested in restoring and exhibiting all ages and types of military vehicles. The purpose of the group is to bring together all persons in Norfolk and adjoining counties with a common interest in military vehicles. It is our aim to assist one another in the restoration of these vehicles and to exhibit at local, national and international events in order for the general public to be able to share part of our history.
An additional aim is to support local fund raising events, for both local and national charities, to which we have donated in the order of 3,000 pounds over the last 8 years. In addition to this we raised sufficiant funds to sponsor 3 taxis to take veterans back to Normandy for the 50th anniversary of D-Day in 1994. Our membership has continued to gain strength, currently just under 100, and is a true family organisation. During 1994 alone, in addition to our normal rally programme, the group organised tours which saw members and vehicles in France and Holland in conjunction with the respective liberation celebrations.
Our members have also seen the benefits of their labours and our vehicles are often in demand for film & television work.
Membership is open to all, irrespective of whether a military vehicle is owned or not and our current subscription is 10 pounds per year. We are also the Norfolk branch of the national Military Vehicle Organisation the Military Vehicle Trust (MVT).
If you are interested in joining the military vehicles preservation movement please do not hesitate to approach any of our members , or come along to our next meeting. Please see our 'where we meet' page for further details.
